Chris Gayle Not To Retire From ODI Cricket Until Further Notice

Chris Gayle

West Indies swashbuckling batsman Chris Gayle played a tremendous knock of 41-ball 72 runs laced with eight fours and five sixes. Gayle and Evin Lewis added 115 runs for their opening wicket partnership. West Indies posted 240 for seven in a rain-curtailed match. West Indies eventually lost the match by six wickets.

Gayle was dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed in the 12th over after the southpaw tried to hit him for another boundary but ended up finding Virat Kohli at mid-off.

As Gayle was about to walk off, the entire Indian team came to congratulate the universe boss. Virat Kohli also performed the jig style along with his former RCB teammate which they have been doing for years.

Gayle also got a standing ovation from the crowd while he was walking with placing his helmet on his bat’s handle. These gestures somehow hinted that it was the last time the world was seeing the burly batsman in One-Dayers.

Gayle’s Reaction

However, after the match, Gayle himself has denied the possibility of his retirement. West Indies cricket released a short clip on their twitter handle where Gayle speaks about his retirement.

It was a surprising thing for Gayle’s fans when they heard about Gayle’s retirement speculation as there was no announcement from the Universe boss about it. Until further notice from the West Indies board, there won’t be any decision taken.

Although Gayle had decided to hang his boots from ODI cricket after the World Cup event, but he overturned his decision at the end of the tournament and expressed to play the home ODI’s and Test series against India. Gayle hasn’t been included in the 13-member test squad that will take on India in the two-match test series that starts from  August 22.

Gayle had worn a special jersey with the number 301 printed on his back to mark his 301st ODI appearance for West Indies since 1999.
