IPL auction is set to be organized in Kochi on December 23 and every franchise must be keenly focusing on a couple of players to add to their squad ahead of the IPL 2023.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes that the Mumbai Indians franchise needs to focus on a quality foreign allrounder.

Mumbai Indians might focus on Jason Holder in the auction says Aakash Chopra

Kieron Pollard was one of the most dynamic player of the Mumbai Indians squad for the past few years. Pollard has now retired from IPL cricket and has become MI’s batting coach and his absence will make Mumbai Indians feel the lack of firepower in their squad.

There are a few match-winning all-rounders who have put their names for the auction ahead of the IPL 2023 including Ben Stokes, Sam Curran and Cameron Green. However, Aakash Chopra believes Jason Holder can be the best pick for the Mumbai-based franchise as he might go for a lesser price and the conditions in Wankhede will suit him.

“Out of the overseas all-rounders available, they might probably want Daniel Sams, Cameron Green on Jason Holder. They have INR 20.55 crore in their kitty with 9 slots to fill. So it will certainly not be possible for them to bit till 12-13 crore and get a star all-rounder. Holder might cost them a bit less and the conditions in Wankhede might suit him,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Jason Holder was a part of the Lucknow Super Giants squad but he has been released into the auction pool. Holder had played some handy knocks for Sunrisers Hyderabad till IPL 2021 after which he was bought by KL Rahul led LSG team. At the same, he has always been good with the ball with his consistent line and lengths which makes him a good buy for any franchise.

It’s worth noting that Mumbai Indians had a terrible outing in the last IPL edition as they finished at the bottommost position with just four victories in fourteen games. The Mumbai Indians franchise is now looking for a complete overhauling of the squad in order to get better returns in IPL 2023.
