England, often referred to as the inventor of the game, hosted the first three editions of it. Today, it stands as the most prestigious trophy in world cricket. A total of 20 teams have featured in the 13 seasons but only 6 nations have lifted the ODI World Cup trophy. The number will remain unchanged after the 2023 World Cup Final as India and Australia have won the title before. The ODI World Cup was inaugurated in 1975 and Clive Lloyd-led West Indies went on to win it. The Caribbean side continued their domination in the next two events and made it to the final, however, India stopped them from making a hat-trick in 1983.
