‘CSK is interested to buy Women IPL Team’ – Chennai Super Kings CEO Kashi Viswanathan reveals franchise’s plan

The inaugural season of Women IPL will have 5 teams and it will be a franchise-based tournament.

The 4-time men’s IPL champion CSK is going to practice their luck in the Women’s IPL as well as they want their team in the inaugural season. In the AGM 2022 BCCI president announced that next year Inaugural women’s IPL will begin in the month of march. The CEO of Chennai Super Kings announced that ‘CSK is interested to buy Women IPL Team’

Along with CSK, KKR, RR, PBKS, and DC are the 4 other franchises in the race to buy a team in WIPL

The franchises of men’s IPL are also going to have their go in the Women’s IPL. Teams like Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings immediately showed their interest the moment BCCI announced the right to own and manage a franchise in women’s IPL. 

The tournament is likely to kick off in the month of march just before the men’s edition. It will be a five-team tournament which will be played in a round-robin group stage format.

The Chennai Super Kings are eagerly interested in buying a franchise in the women’s IPL. The CEO of CSK Kashi Vishwanathan announced in his latest interview that they have already applied for the bidding papers. 

The CSK CEO added ” We’ve applied to buy the bid document. Now we’ll have to find out about the economics of it. We are interested. If CSK doesn’t have a women’s team, it may not look good. We’d like to promote women’s cricket.”

The inclusion of women’s IPL will encourage young Indian female cricketers to play the game which is mostly dominated by males. BCCI are in a hope that hidden talents in the country will rise through the platform of IPL which will help strengthen the Indian women’s squad.

Mumbai will host the Women IPL 2023 

It is expected that Mumbai will host the inaugural Women’s IPL. 

The window of March is announced for the tournament which is yet to be confirmed. 

5 Franchises will participate in the tournament and fight against each other in the Round Robin format. 

Only 5 foreign players are allowed to play in a team playing XI.
