PhotThe second leg of IPL 2021 is set to start with the epic Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians encounter on the 19th of September. While the teams have already reached the UAE, where the remaining matches are to be played, some of the IPL players are currently in the Caribbean, playing the CPL. Though, considering the red hot form of Faf du Plessis, CSK would have been happy with the CPL, but the recent news might be a great setback for the side. The CSK opener Faf du Plessis’ availability for the UAE leg of IPL 2021 is in question after he suffered an injury in the CPL 2021.

Faf du Plessis picks up an injury ahead of the UAE leg of IPL 2021

This happened before the St Lucia Kings Vs Barbados Royals game on Sunday. Faf picked up a groin injury and couldn’t play the match. In the absence of Faf du Plessis, who is also the captain of ST Lucia, Andre Fletcher captained the side. The extent of injury is unknown but him not playing the match is a worrying sign for CSK. In case the magnitude of the injury is large and it happens to be unmanageable within a short period of time, Faf du Plessis might go unavailable for the remaining matches of IPL 2021. This might disturb the balance of the Chennai side.

Faf du Plessis was in great form recently as he had just scored a century in the previous match. Even in the first 7 matches of IPL 2021, Faf du Plessis was in a great touch with the bat. He scored 320 runs in 7 matches, including 4 fifties with a strike rate of 145.45 and an average of 64. Not just his batting but his brilliant fielding skills also make Faf an important player. Him not being present on the field as well would make a great difference to Chennai while fielding.

Faf’s injury has also affected St Lucia’s chances of qualifying for the semifinals. After losing against the Barbados Royals, now the side depends on Amazon Warriors’ victory over Jamaica to reach the semis.

Coming back to Faf’s IPL side, CSK is currently second to just Delhi in the points table. With 5 wins in 7 matches, Chennai is in a comfortable position so far. Faf’s injury would still be a great concern for the side as he’s an integral part of the team.
