India’s tailender Jasprit Bumrah, who knows a thing or two about scoring singles, rotating the strike and hitting a few boundaries on good length deliveries in the fag end of the overs, played a useful knock against England when his team required some flesh to their scoreboard at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

When the likes of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav departed, the onus was on Jasprit Bumrah to extract at least some runs in a bid to help the team. Jasprit Bumrah ensured to score 16 runs as Team India posted 229/9 in their allotted quota of 50 overs. In fact, Bumrah struggled quite a lot when he came out to bat as he didn’t get off the mark for the first 12 deliveries.

Jasprit Bumrah was straightaway put under pressure by the England bowlers. The likes of Mark Wood and David Willey kept him in check by not conceding even a single run. During the third ball of the 46th over, Mark Wood dished out a 150 kmph delivery to Jasprit Bumrah and the latter timed it well towards the right side of mid-on as the ball raced towards the boundary rope. Bumrah’s incredible shot left Rohit Sharma impressed.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma was the pick of the batters in India’s batting line-up. When the top-order batters such as Shubman Gill (9), Virat Kohli (0) and Shreyas Iyer (4) failed to produce a spark, Rohit Sharma assessed the conditions and went about his work in a calm and composed manner. Rohit Sharma top-scored with 87 off 101 balls with the help of 10 fours and 3 hits over the fence.

Suryakumar Yadav also played pretty well as he chipped in with 49 off 47 balls including 4 fours and a six. On the other side of the coin, England’s David Willey was the pick of the bowlers for his team as he accounted for 3 dismissals, giving away 45 runs and bowling two maiden overs with an impressive economy of 4.50.
