Australian opening batter David Warner has hinted at his international retirement after the T20 World Cup 2024 which is scheduled to be played in West Indies and the USA. Warner is planning to call time on his successful Test career at home in January 2024 after the series against Pakistan.
David Warner has been an integral part of the Australian side for the past few years in all the formats of the game. However, he hasn’t performed well in the test format in the last couple of years after which there were some question marks raised on his place in the Australian test squad.
David Warner Hints At International Retirement After T20 World Cup 2024
“You’ve got to score runs. I’ve always said the (2024) World Cup would probably be my final game,” David Warner told reporters in Beckenham on June 3.
“So for me, then I’ll have to play IPL some of the other franchise leagues and then get into that rhythm to play in June. There will be a bit of cricket around to play. Who knows I might go back and play a Shield game for New South Wales,” the Australian opener further added.

“I probably owe it to myself and my family – if I can score runs here and continue to play back in Australia – I can definitely say I won’t be playing that West Indies series. If I can get through this (WTC final and ensuing Ashes campaign) and make the Pakistan series I will definitely finish up then,” Warner discussed his future in international cricket.
David Warner has played 102 Tests for the Aussies and is the seventh highest run-scorer for them in the longest format of the game. He has scored 8158 runs with an average of 45.58 including 25 tons and 34 fifties batting against some top-class opponent bowlers.
Warner is set to play in the WTC final against Team India to be played from June 7 at the Kennington Oval in London. Thereafter, he will feature for the Australian side in the Ashes which will start on June 16 and will be a key series for the Australian opening batter.

Australia will then host Pakistan for a three-match Test series later this year in December. The third test of this series will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground which is David Warner’s home ground as well.
