The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called skipper Rohit Sharma, Head Coach Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli for a meeting after Team India’s humiliating loss in the World Cup semifinal.

The BCCI is reportedly looking to analyze and review Team India’s performance in the T20 World Cup so as to decide future actions.

“We are calling them for a meeting. We are taken aback by what happened in Semifinal, obviously, changes are required. But no decision would be taken without hearing their side. Rohit, Rahul, Virat’s inputs will be taken and the future course of action for the Indian T20 Squad will be taken“, confirmed the top BCCI official to InsideSport.

“We are not concerned about the individuals. They are capable to take their own calls. We are concerned about Indian cricket, team India. What happened against England and what has been happening in knockouts should stop. All our decision-making will be done keeping this thing in mind on how to end this knockout rot, ” The BCCI official further added.

Reports also suggest that the board is not happy with the performance of the selection committee and might review their selection as well in order to have a clear picture of future actions. The Indian squad selected for the World Cup was one of the oldest squads in the tournament as the average age of the team was 30.6 years.

The next T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played in 2024 in the West Indies and the United States. Players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik and Bhuvneshwar Kumar might not remain with the team for the shortest format. This allows the BCCI to groom some young faces for the T20 format as the seniors will now prepare for the ODI World Cup scheduled in 2023.

Hardik Pandya is leading the team in the three-match T20I series in New Zealand next week. The board might be keen to groom Hardik Or Rishabh Pant for leadership responsibilities in the shortest format keeping the senior players focused on longer formats of the game.
