‘Designed by an 8-year old’ – Fans badly troll Lucknow Super Giants’ logo, some campare it to housefly

The emblem features the quintessential cricket's pair of bat-and-ball, adorned with a pair of decorative, tricolor wings on either side.

IPL newbies Lucknow Supergiant(s) have had a busy time establishing themselves on social media. Last week saw LSG reveal their franchise’s official name- an announcement that fellow IPL colleagues Rajasthan Royals had tried to mock, only for the joke to hilariously backfire.

Sometime later, the Punjab Kings tried their hands on some old-school, Lucknawi style Twitter humor to welcome aboard their North Indian comrades; but some clever comments from Lucknow fans put an end to that bit of humor as well.

Lucknow Super Giants unveil Garuda-inspired logo

Clearly, it has been a wild couple of days for the Super Giants super-charged social media team, and from the looks of it- things are going to stay that way for a while. Earlier today, LSG unveiled their official team logo. The emblem features the quintessential cricket’s pair of bat-and-ball, adorned with a pair of decorative, tricolor wings on either side.

An official statement from LSG’s social media team reveals that the team’s logo is inspired from the Garuda, an iconic, mythological bird representing India’s proud culture. “The mythical bird Garuda- who is a protector and enthroned with the power to move swiftly, has inspired us to create the winged emblem of the team. Garuda is omnipresent in every Indian culture and sub-culture”, Lucknow’s official statement read.

Fans’ mixed reaction to Lucknow’s logo

But while LSG might have had some inspiring motivations behind putting up such a magnificent logo, fans were quick to expose the lighter, more comical side of the team emblem. Comments ranged from people calling out Lucknow’s symbol a toned-down version of the Rising Pune Supergiant’s old logo to some comparing it with a housefly. Here’s some of the best social media reactions to Lucknow’s logo:

Meanwhile, there were some Lucknow afficionados who appreciated the team’s soaring ambitions.

For the time being, though, Lucknow would be eager to put behind all the mixed reactions to their logo reveal, and focus on building a strong team in the upcoming mega auctions. They have the strong, troika core of captain KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi to base their franchise around on; but their job is only half done. Come the auctions, LSG would certainly be trying to get a few quality fast-bowling and batting names into their roster.
