The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shortlisted 15 venues for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 which will be organized in the months of October-November. The list includes some key venues like Mumbai and Ahmedabad while the Indian board has ignored Mohali for the marquee tournament.

The ODI World Cup is scheduled to be played between October 5 and November 19 but the BCCI hasn’t finalized the schedule yet with just about four months left for the start of the event. According to recent reports, BCCI secretary Jay Shah expressed that the schedule for the 2023 ODI World Cup will be disclosed during the WTC final at the Oval between India and Australia which will begin from June 7 2023.

The tournament will include 48 matches with 3 knockout games which will take place over 46 days. The list includes the following venues Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot and Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Trivandrum.

The league phase of the World Cup would be hosted across 10 cities. While two more venues will be used to host the warm-up fixtures before the main tournament. The BCCI has ignored the PCA stadium in Mohali and Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur for the marquee tournament.

The prestigious tournament will come back to India after a long gap of 12 years. The last time the ODI World Cup took place in India was in 2011, when the Men in Blue created history and became the first host team to lift the trophy under MS Dhoni at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 2, 2011.

It is also worth mentioning that the 2011 World Cup was highly successful in terms of organization as well. Hence, BCCI bears a tremendous responsibility to uphold and maintain the legacy. However, due to the ongoing conflicts between the BCCI and the PCB there are doubts surrounding the participation of the Pakistani cricket team in the competition.

This might be a concerning issue for both the Indian board and cricket fans who are eagerly waiting to witness an India vs Pakistan clash in the ODI World Cup. Despite all these tensions, the BCCI seems more focused on successfully hosting the event as they have started preparing for the ODI World Cup 2023 as they have just about 4 months left for the preparations.
