Many believe that semi-final against New Zealand was MS Dhoni’s last match for India. Since India knocked out from the 2019 World Cup there are a lot of rumours about the retirement of MS Dhoni. But, Dhoni has not made any comment on his retirement yet. In fact, before the group match against Sri Lanka, he said that he doesn’t know when he will retire but people want him to retire as soon as possible.

India’s next tour is to West Indies, where they are scheduled to play all three-format series. Players like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah to be rested for the tour while MS Dhoni’s selection is doubtful. According to a source BCCI wants MS Dhoni to retire respectfully before they axe him from the team.

A BCCI source said, “We’re surprised that he’s not done it (retirement) so far. There are youngsters like Rishabh Pant waiting to grab their chance. As we saw in the World Cup, Dhoni isn’t the same batsman anymore. Despite coming in at No. 6 or 7, he was struggling to force the pace, and it was hurting the team.”

Dhoni’s Plan After Retirement

After rumours about Dhoni’s retirement, there were talks that former Indian captain may join politics. But there are no official words. But recently, Dhoni’s manager gave a hint about his future plans, signalling that Dhoni might join army post.

Due to his immense achievements in cricket Dhoni was given an honorary commission as a Lt Colonel in the territorial army. Dhoni has great respect for the Indian army in his heart. During the world cup, he had worn special keeping gloves with ‘Balidaan’ badge of Para special forces as a tribute. Once, Dhoni himself had expressed his wish of serving in the Army after taking retirement from cricket.

Is This Right Time For Dhoni To Take Retirement?

There are a lot of talks over Dhoni’s future in cricket. But there is no doubt that Dhoni’s absence will hurt team India in future. He is the senior-most in the team and his presence gives a boost to the captain Virat Kohli and young players. He does not only play the role of a keeper-batsman but also keeps helping others as a mentor.

Some big names are busy criticising MS Dhoni. While legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, Javed Akhtar and other celebrities are willing Dhoni to continue playing cricket. Mangeshkar urged Dhoni to not think about retirement because the Indian team needs him.
