Rohit Sharma facing criticism for his Captaincy in Test final
Although Rohit Sharma is not retired from Test Cricket, his decisions during WTC Final are being criticized. The 36-year-old opted to bowl first which didn’t go in India’s favour. Also, benching India’s go-to bowler R Ashwin in such a crucial match is something that put the Indian skipper on the receiving end.
When Rohit Sharma was named the captain of Team India it was being expected that he will change India’s trophy drought. However, the 5-Time IPL Champion hasn’t been able to change team India’s fortune. Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India lost the 2022 T20 World Cup and WTC 2023. Also, India couldn’t manage to reach Asia Cup 2022 final under Rohit’s leadership.
India have lost 9 ICC tournaments in a row and from here they couldn’t afford to lose one more. The 2023 World Cup is scheduled to play in India and it might be Rohit Sharma’s last chance to win an ICC trophy as captain. He is 36 already and selectors are grooming Hardik Pandya to be his successor.

Rohit’s captaincy in WTC Final was not up to the mark but that doesn’t deny the fact that he excelled at batting in group matches. The Mumbai-born batter played just 10 out of 19 matches in WTC 2022-23 cycle but managed to score 700 runs with an average of 43.75.
