Did Sanju Samson rob Rohit Sharma? Here’s the truth of MI Captain’s controversial dismissal in MI vs RR match

Rohit Sharma was dismissed in the second over of Mumbai Indians' chase after scoring just 3 runs.

Rajasthan Royals took on Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023 game on April 30 at the Wankhede Stadium. In the MI vs RR game, Rohit Sharma’s dismissal led to a controversy as Sanju Samson’s gloves were quite close to the stumps after which the umpires were blasted by MI fans.

Rajasthan Royals had posted a mammoth total of 212-7 courtesy of the breathtaking ton hit by Yashasvi Jaiswal. Mumbai Indians needed a good start from their openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan in order to chase down the total posted by RR but they lost their skipper just in the second over.

Rohit Sharma’s controversial dismissal in the MI vs RR clash

Rajasthan Royals’ pacer Sandeep Sharma came in to bowl the second over of MI innings. On the final delivery of his over, Sandeep bowled a knuckle delivery while Rohit Sharma missed his shot as he was deceived by the pace of the delivery and the ball went on to kiss the top of off-stump.

However, the bails did not come off immediately. Once the ball reached wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, there was some disturbance, and the bails lit up. The bails seemed to have been dislodged by the faintest touch of the gloves of Samson.

Interestingly, There was no review taken by Rohit nor did the umpire discussed it with the TV umpire to have a look on the dismissal. Later after the dismissal of Rohit Sharma, MI fans pointed out on Twitter that his dismissal wasn’t valid.

There was a great uproar on the social media after Rohit’s dismissal. Sanju Samson’s suspicious act was pointed out on Twitter. The on-field umpires were also criticised for calling the decision in the favor of the fielding side without discussing it with the TV umpire.

However, in some of the videos later posted on Twitter, it was pretty clear that Sanju Samson’s gloves were not close to the stumps during Rohit Sharma’s dismissal and it looked like the criticism from the MI fans was sheer out of frustration. The bails clearly dislodged without any contact made by the gloves.

MI batter Tim David played a brutal knock of 45 runs off just 14 deliveries including 5 monstrous sixes to help his side get their fourth victory in IPL 2023.
