Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, numerous rumors have been circulating, from player trades to the retention of players. Rishabh Pant is also among those rumored to leave his franchise, Delhi Capitals, although nothing has been confirmed yet. Meanwhile, a user on X created a buzz with their tweet, suggesting that Rishabh Pant was willing to join Royal Challengers Bengaluru but was denied by Virat Kohli due to political reasons.

The viral tweet, posted by a user named Rajiv, read: ‘Pant approached RCB through his manager earlier this week as he foresees a captaincy vacancy there but was declined by RCB’s management. Virat doesn’t want Pant in RCB due to his political tactics in the Indian team as well as in DC.’

The tweet caught Rishabh Pant’s attention, and he was quick to declare it as fake. Rishabh Pant tweeted: ‘Fake news. Why do you guys spread so much fake news on social media? Be sensible, guys, this is so bad. Don’t create an untrustworthy environment for no reason. It’s not the first time, and it won’t be the last, but I had to put this out. Please always recheck with your so-called sources. Every day it’s getting worse. The rest is up to you guys. This wasn’t just for you; it’s for a lot of people spreading misinformation.’

This year, Rishabh Pant made his return to cricket after missing the action for about a year and a half. His campaign as Delhi Capitals’ captain in 2024 might not have been the best of his career, though he showed promising signs while making his comeback from a career-threatening injury. In the previous IPL, he remained the top run-scorer for Delhi.

Rishabh Pant’s strong batting performance was a positive for Delhi, but there were some negatives, such as David Warner struggling to perform and Prithvi Shaw not delivering his best. Coach Ricky Ponting’s tactics were also criticized, leading to his removal from the Head Coach position. Ponting couldn’t deliver the desired results in his seven years as coach. Delhi’s best performance under him came in the 2020 season when they reached the final, but they suffered a defeat against Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians.
