Disney+Hotstar announces Free Streaming of Asia Cup and Cricket World Cup in India

The Disney-owned OTT platform will stream the upcoming cricket events for free.

In what comes as good news to cricket fans from across India, the popular OTT platform, Disney+Hotstar has expressed its willingness to provide free streaming to mobile users to watch two important cricket tournaments such as the Asia Cup 2023 and ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. The Asia Cup tourney is just nine days away from the start whereas the ICC ODI World Cup will get underway on October 5.

Over the years, OTT service providers have been very good at persuasive marketing in a bid to tap into digital users. Interestingly, Disney + Hotstar has taken the marketing to the next level by launching a campaign that emphasizes ‘free streaming’ on mobile. “Free on Mobile” is the new punchline for the promotional advertisement that started to gain traction among the fans of the cricket fraternity.

They have come up with an interesting hashtag for this campaign by the name of #FreeMeinDekhteJao. The new advertisement, which is directed by Kishore Iyer garnered the attention of the fans.

Meanwhile, the Disney+ Hotstar spokesperson gave insights into the catchy advertisement. He is well aware of the fact that cricket is more than a religion in India and which is precisely the reason why they want to make this sport even more accessible to the users. He further added that the team wants to take the sport every place and connect with the audiences that prefer digital.

“Cricket holds a special place in the hearts of Indians, and we want to make this sport even more accessible to our users. By offering the opportunity to watch the Asia Cup and the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 for free on mobiles, we are geared up to take cricket to every corner of the country and tap into digital-first audiences,” the spokesperson said.

“The campaign film too reflects the same ethos, bringing to light the lengths we Indians go to follow cricket, along with Disney+ Hotstar’s commitment to delivering a top-notch and convenient viewing experience,” he further added in a statement.

They are the most successful team in Asia Cup history as they decorated their trophy cabinet with seven honours. The Men in Blue will kick-start their campaign on September 3 (Sunday) against their arch-rivals, Pakistan.
