‘Don’t look at his age’ – Sunil Gavaskar backs 37-year-old player’s selection in T20 World Cup 2022

Dinesh Karthik proved his mettle yet again on the big stage as he scored a half century in the fourth T20I against South Africa.

Dinesh Karthik’s inspirational story is the talk of the town currently. The 37-year-old batsman has always been in and out of the Indian team and was not in the scheme of things for quiet a few years. However, the wicketkeeper stormed back into the team after his scintillating batting display for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the recently concluded season of the Indian Premier League. The Indian veteran Sunil Gavaskar backs the batsman for his selection in T20 World Cup 2022.

It was a dream come true for Dinesh Karthik when he was selected in the 18-member squad for the 5-match T20I series against South Africa. While many thought Karthik’s international career was done and dusted, the batsman was passionate about his game and always stated that he still has cricket left in him and can contribute for the national team. Considering his current form, Sunil Gavaskar backs Karthik as well and roots for his selection in T20 World Cup 2022.

Dinesh Karthik proved his mettle yet again on the big stage as he scored an explosive 55 runs off just 27 deliveries in the 4th T20I to take his team to a winning score. The batsman used all his experience and went all guns blazing, hitting the Proteas’ bowlers left, right and centre. The former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar back Karthik and feels that the batsman should be on the flight to Australia.

“As far as Dinesh Karthik is concerned, he came in at a time the bat had to be thrown at every delivery. Don’t look at his age, look at what he’s doing. If DK is not on that flight to Melbourne, it’ll be a big surprise,” said Sunil Gavaskar in the mid-inning show on Star Sports while analysing team India’s batting performance in the 4th T20I against South Africa.

Team India played the 4th T20 against the Proteas on Friday and won it by a big margin of 82 runs. Dinesh Karthik’s brilliant half-century set the stage for the Indian bowlers to come and have a crack at the South African batsmen. The Indian bowlers wrapped up the SA’s inning on just 87 runs which ensured the biggest victory for India in the T20Is. The total of 87 was also the lowest total by SA in T20Is. Dinesh Karthik was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ and Sunil Gavaskar backs the batsman to be in the flight to Australia.
