The TNPL 2024 match between Nellai Royal Kings and the Dindigul Dragons became the talk of the town. During the match, Ravichandran Ashwin received a warning of a Mankad (run-out at the non-striker’s end) from Mohan Prasath. Ashwin has been associated with the Mankad since he dismissed Jos Buttler by this mode in an IPL 2019 match in Jaipur.

In the 15th over of the Dindigul Dragons’ innings, Nellai bowler Mohan Prasath stopped in his run-up, believing Ashwin had left the crease early. The bowler complained to the umpire, after which Ashwin received a warning. However, the replay showed that Ashwin’s bat was inside the crease, so there was no chance of a Mankad here.

The official broadcaster of TNPL 2024, Star Sports Tamil, posted an amusing caption on their X handle: ‘Ash Anna would say: “I was the headmaster in the school you studied at!”‘

Netizens also believed that the warning was not applicable, as Ashwin hadn’t left the crease. An X (formerly Twitter) user tweeted, “The word warning is applicable only if the non-striker gains undue advantage by leaving the crease. I don’t think the warning is applicable to Ravichandran Ashwin in this case.”

Another user criticized the commentators who didn’t mention Ashwin being inside the crease, tweeting, “Why are the commentators not pointing out the fact that he was in at the time of the delivery stride, and that it would have been a not out?”

As the user mentioned R Ashwin’s account in the tweet, the Indian spinner noticed it and quickly mocked the commentators. ‘Cos they don’t know the rule,’ reads the caption of Ashwin’s post, which includes a photo of the rule for non-striker run-outs.
