The debutant Gujarat Titans bought Jason Roy for INR 2 crore in the Mega Auction, however the English cricketer pulled out of the tournament citing bio-bubble fatigue as the primary reason. The batsman is now in the news again as ECB bans Jason Roy for 2 matches. The England batsman has been slapped with a ban by the England and Wales Cricket board which may extend for 12 months. The reason for the same has not been revealed yet.
ECB hands Jason Roy 2-match ban
Jason Roy’s exit from the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League was not the first instance as Roy had earlier pulled out of the 2020 season of the IPL after he was picked up by the Delhi Capitals for INR 1.5 crore. Roy was part of the Pakistan Super League post which he took a hiatus from cricket. The cricketer has now been suspended for 2 matches and the ban may well extend to 12 months depending on the cricketer’s behaviour.
The reason behind Roy’s ban is unclear and the England and Wales Cricket Board hasn’t made the cause of the incident public. Last time Roy played for England was against West Indies in the 5-match T20I series which England lost by 3-2. Roy aggregated 130 runs in the series with a half century in the fourth match to his name.
ECB issued a statement which read, “Following a full disciplinary hearing at which all available evidence was heard, the Disciplinary Panel ruled that Mr Roy should: (i) be suspended from the next two England matches for which he is eligible for selection, but that such suspension be suspended for 12 months depended on good behaviour; and (ii) pay a fine of £2,500 by 31st Match 2022.”
The fans will definitely want to know the reason behind the ban and why such a serious action has been taken against the cricketer. As for now, the cricketer will be away from cricket. Even Roy’s club Surrey cleared that there is no fixed date for Jason Roy’s return.
