India A defeated Bangladesh A in the semi-final of the Emerging Asia Cup 2023 by 51 runs in a hard-fought game on July 21 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. In the IND A vs BAN A clash, Soumya Sarkar engaged in a verbal banter with Indian pacer Harshit Rana.

It was a fiery clash between the two neighbours with some intense moments throughout the game. Things got even more heated as the Indian fielders decided to give quite a send-off to experienced Bangladesh all-rounder Soumya Sarkar.

During the 26th over of the Bangladesh innings, off-spinner Yuvrajsinh Dodiya bowled an over-pitched delivery to Soumya Sarkar. The ball gripped and turned and hit Sarkar’s pad and then his bat and went up in the air towards the slip region.

Nikin Jose, who was placed at slip took a brilliant diving catch after which he looked exhilarated and it led to a wild celebration amongst the Indian fielders. At the same time, pacer Harshit Rana and Soumya Sarkar got engaged in a verbal banter and the young pacer gestured him to go back to the pavilion.

The experienced all-rounder then confronted Harshit Rana after which the umpires had to intervene in the matter. Indian skipper Yash Dhull calmed down Rana while Sai Sudarshan had a word with Sarkar probably asking him to relax.

Soumya Sarkar was pretty disappointed with the dismissal as his side needed his experience in the crunch situation of the game. He took the long walk back to the pavilion after scoring just 5 runs.

His dismissal allowed the Men in Blue to further tighten their grip on the knock out game. The Bangladesh side had got off to a good start courtesy of their openers Mohammad Naim and Tanzid Hasan but their middle order failed to carry on the momentum.

The Indian spin duo of Manav Suthar and Nishant Sindhu applied the brakes on the Bangladesh innings as they kept taking wickets on regular intervals. Sindhu eventually finished with the figures of 5 for 20.
