October 13 saw India’s 2021 World Cup attire getting unveiled via BCCI’s official Twitter handle. Being hailed as ‘Billion Cheers Jersey,’ it has been designed by MPL Sports; Indian cricket’s official kit sponsor. There’s a sound-wave pattern on the jersey which represents the supportive chants of the nation’s die-hard cricketing fans. While a royal blue color has been given to majority of the India jersey, the sound-wave patterns are prussian blue. All in all, the design is refreshing to see.

The reason behind stars on India Jersey

Now, coming to the point. India played two warm-up matches ahead of the Super-12 stage, winning both of them… But it was something else that grabbed netizens’ attention. India’s cricket jersey always has three stars above the BCCI logo in regular matches, irrespective of the format.

However, when players took the field in both the warm-up games, it wasn’t the case. The jersey had just one star over the BCCI logo on the top-left part of the t-shirt. Now the question arises, why is it so? Worry not. We’re here to explain.

The solitary star on our T20 WC jersey represents the only trophy we have won in T20 World Cup’s history. Yes, it is the inaugural one under MS Dhoni back in 2007. Similarly. We had two stars above the BCCI emblem in the 2019 One Day International World Cup. They represent our twin successes in ODI World Cups: 1983 win under Kapil Dev and 2011’s triumph.

During non-ICC events and bilateral series, India plays with three stars on their jersey, representing all their World Cup wins irrespective of the format. Interesting trivia, isn’t it?
