Fans troll Dimuth Karunaratne as he unknowingly responds to Harsha Bhogle’s 3-year old congratulatory tweet

Karunaratne responds to an old congratulatory tweet, later realizes his mistake and responds humorously.

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian Cricket team continued their winning streak as they defeated Sri Lanka in the Bengaluru test on Monday. In what turned out to be a forgettable tour for the Srilankan side, they did have some takeaways from the Bengaluru test as their captain Dimuth Karunaratne stood strong and played a great knock against all odds. However, he went on to get trolled on social media after he responded to Harsha Bhogle’s 3-year-old congratulatory tweet for him.

At the start of Day 3, Sri Lanka had a mammoth total of 419 in front of them to chase with 9 wickets in hand. Looking at the pitch, it was comprehensible that the Indian bowlers would do the job for their side. The Srilankan captain and Kusal Mendis initially built up a good 96-run partnership for the second wicket. But after Kusal Mendis departed, no batsman other than Karunaratne could settle in the crease for long. While wickets kept falling on the other side, Dimuth Karunaratne held one end and put up a fight against the Indian bowlers. He went on to score 107 runs in 174 balls before he was bowled by Bumrah.

Dimuth Karunaratne mistakenly responds to Harsha Bhogle’s old tweet

While the social media went ablaze as the cricket enthusiasts went on to appreciate Karunaratne on his brilliant hundred, the Srilankan captain unknowingly responded to a 3-year-old congratulatory tweet. Renowned Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle had tweeted in August 2019, in order to congratulate Karunaratne on his 4th innings hundred against New Zealand. Karunaratne misunderstood the tweet as one for his recent hundred against India and went on the thank Harsha Bhogle.

Social media hence had some hilarious reactions to the incident. Some fans humorously asked the Srilankan captain to stop using Internet Explorer. While some went on to ask about how was he able to dig such an old tweet.

Back then, Karunaratne had scored a 122-run knock in the fourth innings helping his side chase down 268 with ease. Harsha Bhogle had tweeted in order to laud the impressive knock.
