Floodlight CATCHES FIRE, ambulance called: Pakistan Super League 2023 commences with a bizarre accident

Pakistan Super League 2023 got off to a rollicking start on February 13 (Monday) as the tournament opener between defending champions Lahore Qalandars, and Multan Sultans turned out to a last-ball thriller.

Batting first, Lahore Qalandars put 175 runs on the board thanks to a 42-ball-65 from Fakhar Zaman.

Though chasing down the given total against the likes of Shaheen and Haris Rauf was a tough ask for Md. Rizwan and co., the Sultans got off to a beautiful start as Rizzu smacked a quickfire 75. The scorecard read 127 for 1 at the end of 15 overs.

Lahore, however, put on a death bowling spectacle to pull off a 1-run heist against last year’s runners-up, keeping the dangerous duo of Kieron Pollard and David Miller quite after dismissing a well-set Rizwan to get Pakistan Super League 2023 rolling in fabulous fashion.

The inaugural match was preceded by a rare sight a floodlight tower at Multan Cricket Ground was set aflame from the fireworks ahead of a coin toss.

There was panic at the ground and Fire Brigade was called to extinguish the affected floodlight. Though the accident did not prove fatal, an ambulance was also made available to ensure the safety of harmed spectators (if any).
