As a result, cricketers need to be watchful and the respective cricket bodies need to coordinate with local authorities to reduce such risks when the players are on tour. Recently, former Mumbai Indians all-rounder, Fabian Allen faced a dangerous situation where he was robbed at gunpoint during the SA20 2024 stint.
Plying his trade for Paarl Royals in South Africa’s premier T20 competition, the West Indies international stumbled upon an unforeseen circumstance when the goons stole the cricketer’s important belongings such as his phone, bag and other items before fleeing the scene. The incident happened outside the Sandton Sun Hotel in South Africa when the Caribbean was robbed at gunpoint.
West Indies all-rounder Fabian Allen remains unharmed
The 28-year-old cricketer was taken aback by the dreadful incident where he was surrounded by goons outside the renowned hotel. It was at that spot, that the cricketer lost all his belongings and the goons took away all his items and fled the scene, leaving a psychological impact on Fabian Allen. Meanwhile, the sources from Cricket West Indies (CWI), Paarl Royals and SA20 confirmed the shocking incident that happened outside the hotel.
While it was unfortunate that the cricketer lost the valuable items, it is good that he remained unharmed. “Our head coach Andre Coley, also hailing from Jamaica, reached out to Fabian. Contact was successfully established through Obed McCoy (another West Indies international). He is fine. CSA (Cricket South Africa) and his team, Paarl Royals, could share more details if there are any,” a Cricket West Indies (CWI) official told Cricbuzz.

Fabian Allen has played eight games so far for Paarl Royals, wherein he failed to bring the best out of himself, accumulating 38 runs at a batting average of 7.60 and a strike rate of 140.74, registering his personal best score of an unbeaten 17 in the ongoing tournament. On the contrary, he hasn’t been able to make an impact with the ball, picking up two wickets at an expensive economy of 8.87. Paarl Royals will lock horns with Joburg Super Kings in the Eliminator clash on February 7 at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
