From Glenn Maxwell to Suryakumar: Players who will miss initial matches of IPL 2022

Some big names set to miss out the first few games of the upcoming IPL season.

In the Indian Premier League, where every side tends to offer fierce competition to their opposition, survival gets tough for any side if certain players go unavailable for a couple of matches. Ahead of this season as well, due to unavoidable circumstances, injuries, or national commitments, some players will be missing the first few games of the season. Here is the team-wise list of the players who will be missing the initial matches of IPL 2022.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

The newly married Glenn Maxwell won’t be available for the first 2 games. Josh Hazlewood & Jason Behrendorff who are currently in Pakistan with the Australian national side will be missing the first 3 matches.

Mumbai Indians

Suryakumar Yadav won’t be available for Mumbai in their first match against Delhi Capitals. Surya is currently in the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, recovering from the hairline thumb fracture he picked up in the final T20I against West Indies.

Chennai Super Kings

Moeen Ali and Dwaine Pretorius are both set to miss the season opener. Moeen Ali is currently in a three-day quarantine after he landed in Mumbai on the morning of March 24. South Africa’s Pretorius, on the other hand, is yet to fly to the Indian subcontinent. He was a part of the home ODI series against Bangladesh which concluded on March 23.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sean Abbott is a part of the white-ball squads of Australia in the ongoing tour of Pakistan. Hence, he will be missing in the first 3 matches for SRH.

Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR mentor David Hussey has confirmed that Pat Cummins and Aaron Finch both will not be available for the first five games of the season. Both Cummins and Finch have national commitments as they have to represent the Australian side in the ongoing Pakistan tour.

Delhi Capitals

David Warner will miss the first two matches. He has decided to attend Shane Warne’s state funeral which will be held at the MCG on March 30. Mitch Marsh will be missing the first 3 matches as he is a part of Australia’s white-ball squad. Anrich Nortje has joined the DC squad but is likely to miss a few matches. He suffering from hip and back issues. Lungi Ngidi and Mustafizur Rahman won’t be available for the first match.

Punjab Kings

Kagiso Rabada, who was a part of the South African side for the ODI series against Bangladesh will be missing one match for the Kings. Jonny Bairstow is likely to miss 2 games as he is currently a part of the England test side which is touring the West Indies. Nathan Ellis will miss out on four opportunities due to national responsibilities.

Lucknow Supergiants

Marcus Stoinis will be missing the first three as he will be playing in the limited-overs series against Pakistan. Jason Holder & Kyle Mayers will miss the first two games as they both are a part of West Indies’ Test squad against England.
