Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell share a close bond these days. Their brotherhood began when Maxwell joined Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021. Their friendship has since grown so deep that they now consider each other like family. Kohli added a special touch to Maxwell’s wedding celebrations in 2022. However, Maxwell recently revealed that there was a time when tensions arose between them, to the extent that, in a moment of anger, Kohli blocked Maxwell on Instagram.

‘Virat Kohli blocked me in 2017’, says Maxwell

Maxwell recalled the infamous incident in the India vs Australia Test series in 2017. In the Ranchi Test, Virat Kohli strained his shoulder while fielding, an injury that kept him off the field temporarily. Later in the match, Glenn Maxwell was seen clutching his shoulder and laughing after stopping a boundary, clearly mocking Kohli’s injury. This incident added tension, as Kohli had ongoing friction with several Australian players during the series.

Virat Kohli took this incident personally and eventually blocked Glenn Maxwell on Instagram. In the interview, Maxwell mentioned that he wanted to follow Kohli on Instagram but could never find his profile. Someone suggested that Kohli might have blocked him.

“I’m sure he’s on social media somewhere, so I didn’t think anything of it. Not really that; maybe he wasn’t savvy with Instagram. I didn’t really understand why he wasn’t coming up, and then someone mentioned that he might have blocked you. That is the only way you’re not able to find him. I was like, surely not.” said Glenn Maxwell.

When Glenn Maxwell joined Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021, he humorously asked Kohli if he’d blocked him on Instagram. Kohli admitted it and, without hesitation, took out his phone to unblock and follow Maxwell. This playful moment marked the beginning of a close friendship between the two players at RCB, turning a former rivalry into a strong bond.

“Then I went and asked him, ‘Have you blocked me on Instagram?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, probably. It was when you mocked me during that Test match. I think I got the sh*** and decided to block you. I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s fair enough.’ So yeah, he ended up unblocking me, and we became great friends after that.” Maxwell further added.
