Explosive Kangaroo all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has shared an update on the leg injury that he sustained following the conclusion of T20 WC 2022.

Notably, the 34-year-old had broken his left-leg fibula at a close friend’s birthday party about a month ago. Maxwell and his friend were running around in the backyard when the duo slipped and fell; Maxwell’s leg entangled with that of his friend.

The Australian all-rounder had to undergo a surgery to get his fibula sorted and therefore missed the Kangaroos’ recent 3 match ODI series against arch-rivals England.

I don’t want to be on crutches anymore: Glenn Maxwell talks about his injury status

Maxwell was spotted at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) with a protective boot on his left leg, and was using crutches to walk.

“I want it to be done and over with quickly. I don’t want to be on crutches anymore. I don’t want to be in a boot but it’s just the process I’m going through at the moment on a bike, in the pool,” he was quoted as saying.

Glenn Maxwell made public his desire to play for his BBL franchise (Melbourne Stars) as soon as next match but also pointed out he is looking not to rush his comeback to make sure that the injury doesn’t pop back up later in his career.

“I’d love to be playing next game, that’d be great, but also not realistic. The leg has been through a bit of trauma that I need to make sure that I do everything I can to make sure it is not a recurring injury with my ankle joint. That I can make sure that I am solid on it for the rest of my career”, Maxi said ahead of Stars’ second BBL game of the season.

“I have not got a return date for you yet until I can start to walk properly and do other things: playing golf, doing some basic things around the house”.

Glenn Maxwell also revealed that he is going to he his surgeon next week and wants to co-operate with the doctors as much as possible in order to speed up the recovery process for the leg injury he has sustained.

The Big Show’s presence at Melbourne Stars’ first home game served as good luck as the franchise –led by Zampa in Maxwell’s absence– gave a 38 run trashing to Hobart Hurricanes. This was Stars’ first win of the season after losing their season opener against the Thunder on the last ball.
