Kangaroo all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out from all forms of cricket after he suffered a freak leg-injury at a friend’s birthday party in Melbourne on Saturday, November 12.
Glenn Maxwell and his host friend celebrating the milestone were running in the backyard. Both of them slipped and fell; Maxwell’s leg getting buried under the other person’s, breaking his Fibula in two in the process.
His friend, however, came out of the freak incident unscathed.
Maxwell was seen supporting Melbourne Stars (Women) from his hospital bed in a clip shared by the franchise’s Twitter.

Glenn Maxwell to miss England ODIs and BBL
The injury means 34-year-old Glenn Maxwell will be out of cricketing action for a long period (reported to be around 3 months).
This means Maxwell and his reverse hits will be absent from ENG vs AUS ODI series that begins on November 17 and fans will have to settle for Steve Smith’s hyperactivity for entertainment.
National selector George Bailey was quoted as saying, “Glenn is in good spirits. It was an unfortunate accident and we feel for him in the circumstances given he was in great touch in his last few games”.
Notably, the all-rounder struck his 1st T20I fifty of 2022 in his latest match and stuck twice with the ball the game prior to that against Ireland. However, the freak injury means Glenn Maxwell will have to wait to build on his good recent form.
Maxwell is also likely to miss the initial part (if not all) of Men’s BBL 2022-23 which begins on December 13. He captains Melbourne Stars in the tournament and holds the record for the highest-ever score (154* off 64) in the Big Bash League.
Blair Crouch, the general manager of his BBL franchise is waiting for the full fitness of the star cricketer.
“Glenn is obviously a huge part of the Melbourne Stars and we wish well in his recovery. He’ll continue to be a key part of the club during the start of the season as he works his way back to full fitness and we look forward to seeing him soon.”

Interestingly, the injury to Glenn Maxwell is the 3rd time a cricketer has undone himself in an unexpected means in recent times.
Earlier, England batsman Jonny Bairstow had broken his leg ugly on the golf-course and Kangaroo wk-batter Josh Inglis cut his hand playing the same sport on the eve of 2022 T20 WC.
