Former Indian veteran Anil Kumble and explosive batter Chris Gayle reviewed the IPL auction on Jio Cinema as they were part of the expert panel.

Chris Gayle got an opportunity during the show to pull Anil Kumble’s leg as he spoke about an incident during the IPL 2021 edition.

Chris Gayle comes up with a hilarious comment on Anil Kumble

IPL franchise Punjab Kings saw a change in leadership and team management ahead of the IPL 2023 auction. Shikhar Dhawan replaced Mayank Agarwal as the captain of the side while Anil Kumble was replaced by Trevor Bayliss as the head coach of Punjab Kings.

Punjab Kings bought Sam Curran for a whopping price of INR 18.25 crores after facing competition from several franchises including Chennai Super Kings. Punjab Kings’ former head coach Anil Kumble and former opener Chris Gayle had a discussion about Punjab Kings’ auction strategy when the latter came up with a hilarious comment.

“I might be on the unlucky side, or should I say… (looks at Kumble) what should I say?” Gayle said. The whole expert panel including Eoin Morgan and Scott Styris understood his witty comment and started laughing. Kumble hilariously replied to Gayle’s comment and said, “Both of us are on the same page.”

“I’ve been on the unlucky side a few times. Anil is not there now. He was a part of it but he chopped and changed me, that’s a reason why he is sitting next to me now. They chopped and changed him. You know what I’m saying? Hopefully, it can be a better cause this time around!” Gayle further added. Here’s the video.

It’s worth noting that Gayle represented Punjab Kings in IPL 2020 and 2021 editions. The Punjab-based franchise used KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal as openers and hence Gayle played at no.3 for the Kings and spent a significant amount of time on the bench for the side.

Punjab Kings have a reputation of chipping and chopping with the squad every now and then which makes it pretty difficult for the players to settle down and perform consistently across multiple editions.
