Five matches ago, Royal Challengers Bengaluru were at the bottom of the table and seemed destined to bid farewell to the season. However, in a miraculous turn of events, the Faf du Plessis-led side has managed to win five consecutive matches, igniting a ray of hope.

At one point, RCB had less than a 5% chance of making it to the top 4, but now, ahead of their last league match, they have climbed to the 5th spot on the table. Meanwhile, fans are curious to know whether RCB can qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs or no.

RCB’s Qualifying Scenario Ahead of Their Last League Match

Ahead of their last league game, Royal Challengers have a 20% chance to finish the league stage in the 4th position. However, RCB cannot finish in the top 2 as KKR and RR already have 18 and 16 points respectively, while RCB can end the season with a maximum of 14 points. Here’s how RCB can make to playoffs of IPL 2024 season.

  1. RCB need to win their last league game against CSK, by 18 runs or more, or within 18.1 overs. If RCB loses against CSK, they will be eliminated.
  2. Hope for results from other matches:
    • Delhi Capitals beat Lucknow Super Giants
    • Mumbai Indians beat Lucknow Super Giants.
    • Kolkata Knight Riders or SRH beat Gujarat Titans.
  3. Alternatively, if LSG win one game and lose the other, their net run rate (NRR) should be below RCB’s.
  4. If Gujarat Titans win both of their games, their net run rate (NRR) should be below that of RCB.
  5. If Lucknow Super Giants win both of their games, RCB will need Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to lose their remaining two games.

RCB’s position ahead of their last league match of IPL 2024

Virat Kohli’s team has played 13 matches so far this season, winning 6 of them. Interestingly, they only managed to secure one win in their first 8 matches this season. Currently, they are holding the 5th position in the points table with 12 points.

Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants also have 12 points each, although LSG has 2 matches remaining and currently holds better chances than RCB. But KL Rahul’s team is way behind RCB in terms of net run rate. On the other hand, DC has one more match remaining, and their low run rate could prevent them from entering the top 4 even if they win their last game against LSG.
