‘I will come back to Chinnaswamy’- AB de Villiers confirms his IPL return but not as a player

AB de Villiers has confirmed that he will join RCB camp for IPL 2023 season.

One of the most destructive modern day batter, AB de Villiers has confirmed that he will return to Chinnaswamy but not as a player for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

A lot of speculations had arised due to his statement which he gave during IPL 2022 and cricket fans thought he might return as a player for RCB.

AB De Villiers confirms he won’t return as a player

In an interaction through Twitter Spaces, AB de Villiers said, “I will return to Chinnaswamy next year, not for playing but to thank all the fans for the support over a decade”.

While during the IPL 2022 AB de Villiers had said, “I will be around RCB next year, I am missing it, don’t know in which capacity but I would like to visit my second home which is Chinnaswamy stadium — I am looking forward to it”

His statement during the IPL 2022 allowed some rumors to spread and the cricket fans started believing that they’ll see their favorite star back in the RCB jersey.

The former South African batter had scored both the fastest fifty and the fastest hundred off 16 balls and 31 balls respectively in 2018.

AB had started his IPL journey with Delhi Daredevils and then moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore team way back in 2011 and played 11 seasons with them till 2021 being the most impactful RCB player ever.

He scored 5,162 runs from 170 innings at an average of 38.70 and a strike rate of 151.68 during his 14-year long IPL career.

AB de Villiers got huge support from the fans at the Chinnaswamy stadium right since 2011 and the fans will be pretty excited to see him back in Bangalore thanking them for the support he got.
