ICC CWC 2023: IRE vs BAN series to decide South Africa’s fate; Windies, Sri Lanka out of direct qualification

The situation for South Africa in the Super League points table is getting tricky. Their head-to-head series ends up in a draw which has made the chances of direct qualification in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 for proteas very tight. ICC CWC 2023: IRE vs BAN series to decide South Africa’s fate.

South Africa and West Indies played out a 1-1 draw

The 3-match one-day series between the host’s proteas and Windies ended up in a draw with an unfortunate rain disturbance in the 1st ODI. In the 2nd ODI West Indies defeated a well-balanced South African team and put them on the back foot.

Afterward, the proteas took on their revenge and beat the visitors comfortably in the 3rd ODI of the series.

As the series finished with a scoreline of 1-1 South Africa’s chances for direct qualification got delayed. On the other hand, West Indies’ chances of getting direct qualification got vanished.

South Africa’s 2-0 victory over the Netherlands put them in a pole position

An important One-day series against the dutch side became cake walk for South Africa as they clean sweep them. The 2-0 victory made them leapfrog 10th position to the 8th position in the Super League points table.

According to the new rules of the ICC, only the top 8 teams in the super league table will get direct qualification for the ODI World Cup 2023.

England, Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh have already qualified for the ODI World Cup.

There is only one spot left for South Africa and Ireland whereas Sri Lanka, West Indies, Zimbabwe, and the Netherlands are already out of the race.

IRE vs BAN series to decide South Africa’s ICC CWC 2023 fate

The last ODI series of the Super league will be played between Ireland and Bangladesh. South Africa who are sitting in the 8th position currently can slip down if the Irish side manages to defeat Bangladesh 3-0.

The ODI series will begin on 9th May at the Shere Bangla Stadium.

West Indies and Sri Lanka to play qualifiers

The 2-time champions West Indies will play the qualifiers to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023. The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Qualifiers will be played in Zimbabwe.

Along with the bottom 5 teams of the Super League points table 3 association teams and the top 2 Qualifier Play-off teams will participate in the Qualifiers.

The top 2 qualifiers will qualify for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 going to take place in India.
