The 12th edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup is set to begin this weekend with the New Zealand Women vs West Indies Women match on the 4th of March 2022. A total of eight teams will be battling out to win the World Champions title in New Zealand over a period of 29 days from the 4th of March to April 3rd. The Women’s World Cup 2022 will be played in a round-robin format. Each of the eight teams will be playing one game against all the other seven teams after which the top 4 teams will progress to the knock-outs. The matches will be played across eight venues in New Zealand, namely, – Eden Park, Auckland; Hagley Oval, Christchurch; Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui; Basin Reserve, Wellington; University Oval, Dunedin; Seddon Park, Hamilton. The all important, World Cup 2022 Final will be played in Hagley Oval, Christchurch.
Ahead of the main event, the eight teams are currently playing a couple of warm-up matches each. The Indian Women’s side has defeated the South African Women by 2 runs on Sunday. Next, they will be facing West Indies Women on the 1st of March for their second and last warm-up game ahead of the World cup. The Indian Women will be kicking off their World Cup 2022 campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on the 6th of March.
Captain Mithali Raj & Co would be looking to bring the trophy home this time as they nearly missed doing so during the 2017 Final against England. Talking about the Indian Squad news, Smriti Mandhana has been allowed to feature in the World Cup after she was struck in the head during India’s first warm-up fixture.
