‘If Ashwin can be dropped, why not Kohli?’ – Kapil Dev makes a big statement on former India skipper

Team India is currently playing England for a 3-match T20I series which will be followed by a 3-match ODI series

Kapil Dev feels Virat Kohli should be dropped

Virat Kohli has been a sure-shot match-winner for the Indian team over the years, however, the batsman has struggled immensely to score big runs for almost 3 years now. The batsman has been a regular feature of the Test and ODI team even after the dip in form but now the Indian veteran Kapil Dev makes a big statement on Kohli who has been given plenty of chances but can’t seem to get into his rhythm.

Kapil Dev makes a big statement on Kohli

Virat Kohli is part of the modern era Fab 4 which includes Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Joe Root. While the other batsmen, especially Joe Root, are making big strides in Test cricket, Kohli has not looked like the player he once was in the past three years. The star batsman is getting starts but has not been able to convert them into big scores, which once used to be Kohli’s speciality. Looking at the current scenario, Kapil Dev makes a big statement and feels Virat Kohli should be dropped from the team.

Citing the example of Ravichandran Ashwin who was axed from the Test team not very long ago, Kapil Dev makes a big statement and opines that Kohli should also be given a break. The Indian cricket legend feels that it will be a disservice to the players who are in form and can contribute for the team if Virat Kohli keeps making it to the Playing XI even after so many underwhelming performances.

“Virat is not batting at a level which we have seen him do over the years, but if he isn’t performing, then you can’t keep the performing youngsters out of the team. Yes, now the situation is such that you might be forced to bench Kohli from T20 playing eleven. If world No.2 bowler Ashwin can be dropped from Test side then (once upon a time) world No. 1 batter can also be dropped,” Kapil Dev makes a big statement on ABP News.

Virat Kohli is not part of the current squad which is playing England in the ongoing 3-match T20I series as the management wants to try out new players as part of their T20 World Cup preparation. The fans have been longing for a big inning from Virat Kohli but it hasn’t happened so far. It is to be seen how many more chances is Virat Kohli going to get considering his current form.
