There was a time when cricketers focused primarily on skill and technique to excel in the game, but since the evolution of shorter formats, fitness has become key to success. With every run mattering, players need to be quicker and more agile on the field. Fitness also plays a huge role in a batsman’s or bowler’s longevity.
When we talk about fit cricketers, Virat Kohli’s name often comes to mind. Kohli has prioritized fitness throughout his career, making tough lifestyle choices, such as transitioning to a plant-based diet, to stay in shape and avoid gaining bulk. Kohli trains every day to maintain his fitness.
Jasprit Bumrah names himself as the ‘Fittest Cricketer in Indian Team’
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah, at a recent event, was asked who he believes is the fittest player in the current Indian team. The speedster gave a humorous yet confident response: “See, I know the answer you’re looking for. I’d like to say my name because I’m a fast bowler. I’ve been playing for a while, and being a fast bowler in this country, the heat demands a lot. So, I’ll always promote fast bowlers and choose a fast bowler’s name.”

No doubt, Jasprit Bumrah is among the fittest cricketers today and is arguably the best fast bowler at the moment. Bumrah has faced some injuries in his career but has always overcome them. He suffered a setback in 2022 with a stress fracture, but made a strong comeback nearly a year later, regaining his fitness and helping India win the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Bumrah is set to return to action in India’s upcoming 2-match Test series against Bangladesh. He, along with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, took a rest during the Duleep Trophy. The trio, along with the rest of the squad, has arrived in Chennai and begun preparations for the first Test match, set to begin on September 19.
