IND vs ENG: Jasprit Bumrah smashes Stuart Broad for 35 runs in an over

The stand-in Indian skipper, Jasprit Bumrah went berserk as he recorded most runs in an over in Test cricket history.

The rescheduled 5th test of India’s 2021 tour of England is presently being played at the Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham.

The match stays relevant and both sides are fighting for something. If India manages a victory, they’ll be winning a test series in England after a gap of 15 years. On the other hand, if the Three Lions defeat India, they’ll be able to draw the series and stretch India’s drought even further.

Having won the toss yesterday, Ben Stokes elected to bowl first. While the decision of batting in 4th innings copped some initial criticism, James Anderson and company proved his move right. India’s score read 98/5 at the end of 28 overs.

Thereon, Rishab Pant and Jadeja scored a ton apiece, leading India’s rebuild before eventually getting dismissed. However, England’s agony didn’t end with the duo’s departure; as a fiery Jasprit Bumrah smashed Stuart Broad for 35 runs in an over.

Stuart Broad bowls the most expensive over in test cricket history

The new Indian captain, Bumrah, walked in to bat in the 80th over following Shami’s wicket. For the first few deliveries, Jasprit was quiet and supported Ravindra Jadeja, who was the renowned batter at the crease.

But after Jaddu fell prey to Anderson, Jasprit Bumrah took the matter into his own hands. Turning into a total beast, Bumrah smashed Stuart Broad for six boundaries in the 84th over of the game.

Broad’s over started with 5 wides, before Bumrah hit a four, and then top-edged the second legal ball of the over for a maximum. He then followed it up with three consecutive fours: one over long on, one past the keeper, and another in front of square-leg.

The fifth ball of Stuart Broad’s over went the distance as Bumrah hooked the short-pitched delivery into the stands, while the last ball was a rather well executed yorker which resulted in just a single.

Regardless, the Stuart Broad over went for a total of 35 runs. This means that the Englishman now holds the unwanted record for bowling the most expensive over in test cricket history.

Interestingly, Broad also co-owns (alongside Sri Lanka’s Akila Dananjaya) the record for bowling the most expensive over in T20 internationals. For those who do not know, ‘Broady’ was grilled by Yuvraj Singh for six sixes in an over at the 2007 T20 WC.
