India scraps ‘Retro Jersey’, set to sport a new kit in T20 World Cup 2021

Team India was donning the navy blue 'retro kit' since 2020-21 tour of Australia. The jersey was inspired from 1992 World Cup attire.

There were speculations regarding the change in India’s cricketing kit and fans had been waiting for it for quite some time now. Now, it’s official that BCCI is all set to unveil India’s new cricketing jersey on 13th October. The navy-blue ‘Retro Jersey’ which took its inspiration from India’s 1992 World Cup attire is all set to make way for a new one. It was quite a thing back then, but netizens didn’t quite resonate with it when it was re-introduced.

BCCI to unveil T20 World Cup Jersey on October 13

Today, at 12:00 PM sharp, BCCI’s official Twitter handle posted, “The moment we’ve all been waiting for! Join us for the big reveal on 13th October only on @mpl_sport. ?? Are you excited?” The tweet has already hit 20k likes, which speaks volumes about the next-gen’s excitement regarding the overhaul.

It’s very likely that the iconic vibrant blue jersey will be back. Emotions are attached to that jersey, and why would it be any different? After all, we triumphed in the 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champion’s Trophy while sporting the same color. It will surely be interesting to see what the new kit actually looks like.

India likely to sport vibrant blue jersey

The retro kit was originally planned to be used only for the series versus Australia which took place last December. But for some reason, the board and the players decided to represent the nation in the same kit since then. It’s been almost a year… 10 months to be exact since we last wore the iconic blue.

13th of October isn’t too far away and one can’t wait to see the new kit (which will be worn in the WC as well) be unveiled on MPL SPORTS’ social media handle. MPL Sports also happens to be our current kit sponsor and national captain, Virat Kohli is their present brand ambassador.
