The 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) had a grand finish last month but the fans need not to wait long for their T20 tournament to start again. The next edition of the cash-rich is expected to get underway from April, 2022. The eight-team tournament will now expand to ten teams with the addition of franchises from Lucknow and Ahmedabad.

IPL 2022 Retention Rules

As the new teams are set to make their debut in the next season, we will also see a mega auction. If some reports are to be believed, the existing franchises can retain a maximum of four players and must disclose the list of retained players by 30th November. The two new teams will then pick 4 players from the released list or players from the auction pool in the first 25 days of December.

The existing franchises are advocating for Right To Match (RTM) but nothing has been officially communicated so far.

As much as the fans, the teams will also look up to the mega auction. It comes after every three years and the franchises, including ones from Lucknow and Ahmedabad, would aim to build a solid core that will likely reap rewards for them in the coming seasons.
