Former Indian batter Gautam Gambhir has decided to leave LSG ahead of the IPL 2024 as per reports. Gambhir served as the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants franchise for the last two IPL editions and is expected to join another IPL franchise for the upcoming season of the cash-rich league.

According to a report published in Dainik Jagran, Gautam Gambhir will soon leave the LSG franchise, ending a two-year association with the KL Rahul-led team.

“After Andy Flower, Gautam Gambhir will now leave the IPL franchise… I can’t say anything further beyond this.” the source told Dainik Jagran.

It has also been widely reported in the past that Gambhir will take up the same role for the Kolkata Knight Riders side. He has been in contact with the KKR management for quite some time now and if things go well, the cricket fans will see him coaching the side in the IPL 2024 season.

The former Indian opener is a highly respectable figure in KKR thanks to his highly successful stint as captain for the franchise. He led the team to two IPL titles and made them one of the most consistent sides of the IPL during his tenure from 2011 to 2017.

It’s worth noting that last month LSG head coach Andy Flower resigned from his post. He will now play the similar role for the Virat Kohli-starrer Royal Challengers Bangalore side and has replaced Sanjay Bangar.

The Lucknow Super Giants franchise have brought in former Australia coach Justin Langer as their head coach for the IPL 2024 edition. They have also roped in former Indian chief selector MSK Prasad as a strategic consultant.

The LSG side had performed well in the last two seasons under Gambhir and Andy Flower and qualified for the playoffs in both the seasons. However, they are yet to win an IPL title and might look to get the trophy under the new coaching staff

“Prasad brings with him a wealth of experience and a stellar track record in cricket operations, coupled with a passion that has driven him to remarkable achievements in both national and international arenas,” the official statement read.
