Rumors of Glenn Maxwell leaving Royal Challengers Bengaluru ahead of IPL 2025 have ignited on social media. The reason behind it is the report of Maxwell unfollowing the franchise’s Instagram handle. The name of RCB is missing from Glenn Maxwell’s following list. Netizens also mentioned that the Aussie batsmen used to like every Instagram post of RCB before but he hasn’t done so for a long time.

Glenn Maxwell to part ways with RCB?

Glenn Maxwell had a forgettable season with the Challengers in 2024. The 35-year-old batsman could score only 52 runs in 10 games, leading the RCB management to bench him for six games. Maxwell played the last four IPL seasons for the Bengaluru-based team and was considered one of their top three players alongside Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli.

However, his last season’s performance may exclude him from RCB’s retention list for the upcoming season. As there will be a mega auction ahead of IPL 2025 and franchises can retain only four players. RCB may look to make changes in the team. According to reports, they are also eyeing a new captain, and recently KL Rahul’s name has been in the mix.

Glenn Maxwell’s IPL career has seen ups and downs. He started his IPL career with the Mumbai Indians in 2012 but rose to fame with a tremendous season for the Punjab Kings in 2015. However, despite being backed by PBKS for six seasons, his performance for Preity Zinta’s team remained average after IPL 2015.

He was then roped in by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2021 Auction, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Maxwell’s IPL career. In that very season, he smashed 500+ runs, and quickly became an integral part of RCB. However, his flop performance in IPL 2024 was a big letdown for the Challengers.
