IPL All Star match has been announced by BCCI President Sourav Ganguly on Monday. This will a charitable T20 match scheduled to play 3 days before the first match of IPL 2020 which will take place on 29 March. Earlier the plans were that Motera Stadium of Ahmedabad will host the match. But as the ground is not yet ready to host a match the venue of IPL All Star match to be announced yet.
IPL All Star Teams & Players
Players from all 8 teams will feature in this match. According to ESPNcricinfo, the two teams which will play IPL All Star match to be formed by combining players from the four franchises. One team will have players from North & East franchises which are Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, King XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders.
The other team will have players from the franchises located in South and West of India – Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Thus, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, David Warner and other big names to play together in this match.
In the other team, we can see the likes of Andre Russell, Glenn Maxwell, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Steve Smith, Ben Stokes. As this match is before IPL 2020’s start, this will also mark MS Dhoni’s return to cricket after the 2019 World Cup.
The idea to host this match came from BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and IPL governing council chairman Brijesh Patel who has also served team India as a batsman. Sourav Ganguly also announced that both first match and final of IPL 2020 to be played at the Wankhede, home of defending champions Mumbai Indians on 27 March and 24 May respectively. Also, the upcoming season will have the concussion substitute rule which allows teams to replace an injured player with a player from the dugout.
