IPL Team’s Head Coach interested in replacing Rahul Dravid in Team India

The head coach of the IPL franchise has shown his willingness to coach the Indian team.

Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid’s tenure as India’s head coach extends until the T20 World Cup in June. Meanwhile, the Indian cricket board has initiated the search for a new head coach. BCCI has invited applications for the position, setting a deadline of May 27. Jay Shah has also mentioned that Rahul Dravid can reapply for the role if he wishes.

Justin Langer interested to coach Team India

Meanwhile, Justin Langer, the current head coach of the IPL team Lucknow Super Giants, has expressed his interest in pursuing the role. Speaking to the Times of India, Langer mentioned that coaching the Indian national team would be an exciting opportunity.

“Well, I am curious, I’ve never thought about it. I have deep respect for any international coach because I understand the pressure, but coaching the Indian team would be an extraordinary role. From what I’ve seen with the amount of talent I’ve seen in this country, it would be fascinating,” Langer told TOI.

Justin Langer emerges as a potential candidate due to his extensive coaching experience. In addition to coaching the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, he previously served as the head coach of the Australian men’s team from 2018 to 2022 and the Perth Scorchers team from 2012 to 2018.

However, since Duncan Fletcher’s departure in 2015, Team India has not had a foreign coach. Anil Kumble, Ravi Shastri, and Rahul Dravid have served as the main head coaches after 2015. Despite their efforts, none of the Indian coaches have been able to secure an ICC trophy for the team. It will be intriguing to see whether the BCCI opts for a foreign coach this time around.
