Jasprit Bumrah set to make a long-awaited comeback in Ireland vs India 2023 series

Bumrah last played for the Indian team in the T20I series against Australia in September 2022. He missed the entire editions of the IPL 2023, Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup due to a recurring back injury.

The express pacer underwent surgery for a lower back stress fracture in New Zealand earlier this year. He was rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and was recently seen bowling in the nets as he looked in complete rhythm in a few videos that went viral on social media.

While Jasprit Bumrah will lead the Indian side for the second time in his career, young batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named as the vice-captain in the Ireland vs India Squad 2023. It’s worth noting that there’s no other senior player in the squad apart from Bumrah.

The likes of Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Suryakumar Yadav have been rested as they are in the scheme of things for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The senior players will also feature in the Asia Cup 2023 which will begin from August 30 and they’ll need some rest ahead of the tournament.

Explosive all-rounder Shivam Dube who played a crucial role in Chennai Super Kings’ victory in the IPL 2023 has also made a comeback in the Indian squad. Young keeper-batter Jitesh Sharma and Rinku Singh have got their maiden India call for the T20I series against Ireland.

Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna who was out of action for almost a year due to a lumbar stress fracture too has regained his fitness and has got a spot in the team. Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar are the other front-line seamers in the squad.

The 3-match series begins on August 18 and all the games will be played at the Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin.
