“It’s not the right way to play Cricket” – Adam Zampa’s coach David Hussey slams him for Mankad attempt

Adam Zampa’s failed attempt of Mankading Rogers is getting a lot of criticism. In the game between Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars, Adam Zampa attempted a cheeky run out to dismiss Tom Rogers at the non-striker end. 

The player was way out of his crease and thus Zampa removed the bails and appealed for a runout at the non-striker end. The on-field Umpire declared out initially but the third umpire changed the decision.

The third umpire overturned Adam Zampa’s appeal of runout as he completed his bowling action

 After looking at the replays it was clearly evident that the Australian leg-spinner completed his bowling action. According to the rules issued by MCC “The non-striker can be run out if he/she is out of his/her ground up until the moment the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball,” 

“That means when the arm gets to its highest point. The bowler is not entitled to go all the way around in the bowling action and then run the non-striker out.”

The 30-year-old saw himself in a very embarrassing situation as the decision was overturned.

Melbourne Stars head coach David Hussey was not very pleased with Zampa during the mid-innings interview. The coach said, ” If it had been given out we would have withdrawn our appeal anyway”. He added, “It’s not the right way to play cricket, It was quite of a warning for the batter not to leave the crease so early”.

The batter Tom Rogers said after the match “I was pretty happy the ‘not out’ came up because I didn’t think that I had left too early,”

Melbourne Stars lost the game by 33 runs 

The Renegades posted a total of 141 runs which proved enough in front of the star’s batting lineup as they were 108-9 at the end of their innings. Tom Rogers bagged his first-ever fifer in T20 cricket and got also awarded man of the match. 

It is still a debate whether Mankading is the correct way to get a batsman though it is legal according to the rule books.
