IPL 2023

The Indian Premier League is set to conduct a mini-auction on December 23 in Kochi.

The teams have been given a deadline of November 15 to announce their release and retention lists. At this crunch time, a star player has decided to skip the IPL 2023 season.

Pat Cummins decides to skip IPL 2023 citing the upcoming World Cup and Ashes

Australian skipper Pat Cummins has decided to skip IPL 2023 season as he wants to focus on the ODI World Cup and Ashes scheduled in the same year. IPL will be organized in the months of April-May while Ashes will commence in June-July. Later in 2023, the ODI World Cup is scheduled for October-November.

The Aussie skipper stated that 2023 is packed with tests and ODIs and he will look to get some rest before the marquee events. Cummins has now been selected as the captain of the ODI side as Aaron Finch announced his retirement from the ODI format just before the start of the T20 World Cup. As Cummins is the leader of the side, he won’t get much chance for rest later in the year when the team will prepare for Ashes first and then ODI World Cup.

The Aussie skipper took to Twitter on Tuesday morning and wrote, “I’ve made the difficult decision to miss next year’s IPL. The international schedule is packed with Tests and ODI’s for the next 12 months, so will take some rest ahead of an Ashes series and World Cup. Thanks so much to @KKRiders for their understanding. Such a terrific team of players and staff and I hope I can get back there ASAP.”

Pat Cummins has been a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders side in the last three seasons of IPL. Cummins was crucial with the new ball for the KKR side and played some stellar knocks with the bat as well including his 14-ball half-century against Mumbai Indians which is the fastest fifty ever in the Indian Premier League.
