Fans from every nook and corner of the country are curiously waiting for Rishabh Pant to make a comeback in competitive cricket. India’s attacking wicketkeeper-batsman met with a career-threatening car crash in late December 2022 on the Delhi-Dehradun highway, while he was on his way to his hometown, Roorkee, Uttarakhand. Fortunately, he survived but the crash left him with multiple injuries.
The cricketer fractured his wrist, ankle, toe, back and also sustained a head injury. Thankfully, two individuals, Rajat Kumar and Nishu Kumar, heroically rescued the Indian cricketer from the burning SUV. Rishabh Pant was shifted to multiple hospitals for treatment wherein he underwent surgery before requiring additional surgery to rebuild his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Rishabh Pant endured a tough phase of late as he missed multiple tournaments including Asia Cup 2022, T20 World Cup 2022, ICC World Test Championship 2023 final, and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Meanwhile, the fans are eager to know whether the cricketer will turn up for the upcoming marquee event that will go all guns blazing from June 1 onwards. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has his say on the possibility of Pant’s comeback.
Jay Shah stated that Rishabh Pant has been ticking the boxes in batting and wicketkeeping and that they will declare him fit anytime soon. He further added that it will be a big thing for Indian cricket if Pant can feature for India in the T20 World Cup but also remarked that a lot depends on how he performs in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

“He (Pant) is batting well, he is keeping well. We will declare him fit very soon. If he can play in the T20 World Cup for us, that will be a big thing for us. He is a big asset for us. If he can keep, he can play in the World Cup. Let’s see how he does in the IPL,” Jay Shah told PTI. Pant will be leading his troops against Punjab Kings in the second match of IPL 2024 on March 23 at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali.
