Joe Burns doesn’t want Prithvi Shaw to score any runs at all

Joe Burns and Prithvi Shaw

The Australian team got off to a flying start in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as they thrashed the Indian team by 8 wickets. The Indian batsmen looked clueless in the second inning and had a nightmarish first session on the third day of the first Test match. Prithvi Shaw in particular was a disappointment as his stumps were rattled in both the innings. Australian opener Joe Burns in a query made it clear that he doesn’t want his rival Prithvi Shaw to score any runs.

Joe Burns had been struggling to get going prior to this match. He was looking to get into form and got the perfect opportunity in the second inning scoring 51 runs for his team. The inning came at the right time for Joe Burns as his bad form could cost him his place in the team. While Burns shined with the bat, Prithvi Shaw failed yet again scoring only 4 runs in both the innings combined.

I might give advice at the end of the series : Joe Burns

The Indian opener was bowled by Starc in the first inning while Cummins castled his stumps in the second inning. Shaw’s bad form is a concern for the Indian team as the team is not able to get good starts putting a lot of pressure on the No.3 batsman Cheteshwar Pujara. Team India was all out for an insignificant score of 36 and created the record for the lowest score ever for themselves.

Burns in a recent interview by ANI said, “I wouldn’t give him any advice as I am playing against him. I’m hoping that he makes no runs at all. I actually don’t know what form he is been in. I haven’t been following him. He is obviously a quality player if he is playing for India. I might give advice at the end of the series, but not after the first game.”

Both the teams are now getting ready for the Boxing Day Test which will start from 26th Dec in Melbourne. The Indian team must perform better to have any chance of winning the match. In the absence of Virat Kohli who has taken a paternity leave, Ajinkya Rahane will be rallying the troops for the rest of the series.
