Star Indian cricketers Ishan Kishan and Smriti Mandhana made an appearance on a special episode of the reality game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. The episode was telecasted on Christmas night. Both cricketers took the hot seat together and were questioned by Amitabh Bachchan. Ishan and Smriti’s collaborative effort earned them 12.50 lakh rupees on the KBC stage and they donated the winnings to a charitable organization.
Ishan Kishan and Smriti Mandhana stuck on a question about Sachin Tendulkar in KBC
During the episode, they had to use two lifelines to get the answer to their final question which was about Sachin Tendulkar. The 12th question of the episode was cricket-related which would take them to 12.50 lakh rupees. However, both cricketers were unaware of the answer.
Amitabh Bachchan asked, “Which Indian cricketer made his Test debut in the same match in which Sachin Tendulkar scored his first international century.” The four options were, (A) Rahul Dravid (B) Anil Kumble (C) Sourav Ganguly (D) Javagal Srinath.
Both were unconvinced about the answer and requested the host, Amitabh, to use one of their remaining two lifelines, ‘Call a Friend.’ Although their friend was uncertain, he provided a hint that the answer might be option D, Javagal Srinath. Ishan and Smriti hesitated to take the risk, considering that a wrong answer would drop them down to 3.20 lakh. Consequently, they decided to use their last lifeline ‘double dip’, which allowed them to choose two answers

As recommended by their friend, both cricketers first chose Javagal Srinath, but it turned out to be the wrong answer. Their second pick was Anil Kumble, as they were quite sure that Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly hadn’t made their Test debut when Sachin scored his first hundred for India. They took a breath of relief as Amitabh declared the answer as correct.

Sachin Tendulkar scored his first century for India in August 1990 at Old Trafford, during a Test match against England. In that very match, Anil Kumble made his Test debut for India, and the rest is history. Anil Kumble went on to become the highest-ever Test wicket-taker for India, playing 132 matches and concluding his career with 619 wickets.
