There have been ongoing rumors for quite some time about Rohit Sharma entering the IPL 2025 mega auction. Whether Rohit will be part of the auction or if Mumbai Indians will retain him will be known in the next 16 days. The deadline for IPL 2025 retention is October 31. Ashwin, on his YouTube channel, mentioned that any franchise planning to bid for the 5-time IPL winning captain should set aside at least 20 crore in advance, as he is likely to go for a minimum of that price. “You need to keep 20 crore with yourself if you want to sign up Rohit Sharma. 20 crore has disappeared there,” said Ravichandran Ashwin.
On the other hand, AB de Villiers also shared his opinion on these rumors. He stated that Rohit Sharma entering the IPL auction would be a massive event, even bigger than Hardik Pandya’s trade. However, de Villiers expressed that he doesn’t believe Mumbai Indians will release Rohit and thinks the chances of Rohit entering the auction are just 0.1 percent.

Even if Rohit is removed from captaincy, his presence in the team will still be a big positive. As a batter, he can still prove to be Mumbai Indians’ trump card. Last season, Rohit had a decent performance as a batter, scoring 417 runs in 14 innings. Star players Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan couldn’t deliver standout performances last season, which led to the Mumbai Indians finishing as bottom dwellers.
