Lucknow Super Giants will don the green and maroon colors which comprise the jersey of the Kolkata-based club, ATK Mohun Bagan for their final league game against Kolkata Knight Riders. The KKR franchise have complained BCCI as LSG mentioned ‘Kolkata’ in their recent tweet ahead of the LSG vs KKR game.

The LSG franchise announced on May 18 that it’s players will wear the green and maroon color jersey in their game against KKR at Eden Gardens on May 20. Both Lucknow Super Giants and ATK Mohun Bagan have the same owner in Sanjiv Goenka, who is the chairperson of the RPSG group.

LSG forced to withdraw posts about Mohun Bagan after KKR complains

“Lucknow’s #GazabAndaz, now in Kolkata’s colours.  Our tribute to Mohun Bagan and the City of Joy,” the LSG franchise tweeted on May 18.

LSG deleted this post later.

The use of the word ‘Kolkata’ in Lucknow Super Giants’ tweet didn’t go well with the KKR franchise as they launched a formal complaint to BCCI. After the intervention of BCCI, both LSG and Mohun Bagan were forced to withdraw the posts from their respective social media handles.

“Lucknow Super Giants forced to withdraw posts about Mohun Bagan because of a complaint by one IPL franchise. They complained to BCCI against LSG for mentioning another club from the same city. After which BCCI invoked ‘conflict of interest’ in its mail to LSG,” Mariners’ Arena tweeted on May 18.

“Upon BCCI’s instructions, LSG and MB were forced to withdraw the posts from their respective social media handles. However, we’ve been told that there are no issues in LSG donning the green and maroon on Saturday,” they further added.

The LSG franchise had announced that they’ll wear the colors of the traditional Indian football club Mohun Bagan as a tribute to the club. Most of the sports enthusiasts in the city of Kolkata, particularly the loyalists of Mohun Bagan, welcomed LSG’s gesture to don the green and maroon jersey against KKR. However, some fans were unhappy with the move, as they felt Kolkata Knight Riders should have donned those colors.

The KKR vs LSG game on May 20 is quite crucial in terms of the race to the playoffs of IPL 2023. Lucknow Super Giants will certainly book a spot to the playoffs if they win the game. On the other hand, KKR too have a slight chance to qualify if they win the game against LSG and all other results fall in their favor as well.
