KL Rahul reacts oppositely to Preity Zinta and Sehwag on short run controversy

Last night, during the second match of the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), fans witnessed a nail-biting contest as Delhi Capitals (DC) registered a Super Over win against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). However, not only the super over thriller made to the headlines but also the dubious ‘short-run’ call from umpire Nitin Menon. Actually, during the Kings 11 Punjab inning, umpire Nitin Menon gives a short run which is looking a clear run. This umpiring howler made angry the co-owner Preity Zinta and former Punjab player Virender Shewag as they reacted with anger on twitter handle after the loss. Although, Punjab’s skipper KL Rahul reacted oppositely to both of them on short-run controversy.

Umpire Should Have Been Man Of The Match: Virender Sehwag

Indian former cricketer and Kings 11 Punjab’s former mentor and player Virender Sehwag took to Instagram to vent anger after the loss of Punjab in the super over thriller. He wrote, “Pooran ka toh do baar chooran nikaal diya Delhi ne but I don’t agree with the man of the match choice . The umpire who gave this short run should have been man of the match. Short Run nahin tha. And that was the difference. #dcvkxip #ipl.”

Punjab’s Co-owner Preity Zinta also reacted over the incident and asked the BCCI to introduce new rules. She wrote in a tweet, “I travelled enthusiastically during a pandemic, did 6 days of Quarantine & 5covid tests with a smile but that one Short Run hit me hard. What’s the point of technology if it cannot be used? It’s time @BCCI introduces new rules. This cannot happen every year.”

Preity Zinta and Virender Sehwag expressed their anger through social media, however, skipper KL Rahul has taken the umpire’s decision in his stride and reckons that it’s a part and parcel of the sport. Boria Majumdar, the renowned sports journalist revealed the same.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “This @IPL is all about the spirit. I asked @klrahul11 late last night if he felt gutted with the 1 short decision and he said “but this is why it is a game dada”. Brilliant. Admire this spirit and this will serve him and his team well. @lionsdenkxip Exactly the right attitude.”
